The 11th edition Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday night. The event attracted a galaxy of stars from across the continent.
Lisabi: The Uprising, produced by and starring Lateef Adedimeji, was a major winner. The film bagged Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup.
Lisabi is directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. It is a historical drama about an Egba farmer. The farmer leads a resistance against the oppressive Alaafin of Oyo in the 1800s.
Adedimeji and wife Adebimpe Oyebade, who also starred in the film, dedicated the awards to God and their hardworking team.
In special recognitions, Nollywood veterans Nkem Owoh and Sani Mu’azu received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Director Kayode Kasum was honoured with the Trailblazer Award for his contributions to African storytelling.
Performances by Nigerian Idol Season 9 winner Chima lit up the night. Singer Johnny Drille also added to the excitement. Viral stars Fido, Kunmie, and Serotonin further enhanced the evening.
