Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi has urged students of the State-owned institution to explore the comparative opportunities provided by the prevalence of the Information and Technology Communication, (ICT) to become multi skilled graduates, who will not depend on certificates for fortune making.
Professor Akanbi gave this admonition in Kwara Hotels, at the 3rd Students’ Union Leadership Summit organised by the KWASU Students Union Government to honour personalities, who have contributed immensely to youth development especially in the realm of education.
The erudite scholar vowed that, KWASU, under his watch would produce “total graduates” that are not only groomed to successfully compete in any part of the world, but also ingrained with exemplary leadership qualities.
He, therefore, expressed his resolve to run an inclusive administration, which will accord students the leverage to participate in some of the decision making process of the school.
The Vice Chancellor, however, charged the students not to derail from the founding principles of Students’ Unionism, lamenting that most students, nowadays, hide under the veneer of Unionism to perpetrate rascality. He however made it clear to the students that there is a remarkable difference between being rascally and being radical. While the former connotes negativity the latter connotes positive change.
Speaking further, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria thanked the Students’ Union Leadership for hosting such a robust intellectual discourse, noting that students are the most important stakeholders in the education sector.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Occasion, Barrister Kunle Sulyman extolled the managerial competence of the Vice Chancellor, expressing optimism that the university, under Akanbi’s leadership, would rank among the best in the country – and even beyond.
In the final lap of the event, the Students Union Government presented an award to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN. Other notable dignitaries that were given an award were the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; CEO, Maron Oil and Gas Limited, Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya; Senator Ibrahim Yahya Oloriegbe; Dean Students’ Affairs, KWASU, Professor Mashood Jimba and Former All Progressives Congress Spokesperson, Mallam Issa Olanrewaju Onilu.
