“Failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change might be” – John Wooden
Shall we begin?
Let me analyze the word of Wooden above in relation to the subject matter. It’s no more a news that PDP at the national level continues to suffer different injuries from 2015 till date, ranging from parallel Congress to factional party executives in the six geo political zones of the federation. One will expect the party to collapse her building and start a new foundation with equity and fairness instead , it embarked on lies and cheap blackmails against the federal government and all states where the party exist as dead opposition.
A party without discipline and foresight will only move from worse to worst as we have it in the present day PDP, the gladiators were arrogant and egoistic, everyone of them want to be the sole controller of the party, for selfishness and personal gains, from Governor Nyesom Wike who was accused of controlling the embattled national chairman of the party Prince Uche Secondus ,to former Speaker of the 8th assembly Rt hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal , to former governor of Kano state Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to Former Senate president of the 8th Assembly Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and countless numbers of others.
Recently, the national chairman of the party was dragged before Economics and Financial Crime Commission for financial mismanagement, one will recall that in February 2016, the embattled party chairman was arrested by the same EFCC for receiving campaign buses illegally and demanded he returned them, this is a week after Secondus tenure ended as acting chairman in 2016 ,after a congress that gave birth to Ali Modu Sheriff’s leadership.
In 2017, Prince Uche Secondus was returned as the party national chairman through congress, initially the southwest region of the party laid claim to their turn with reference to zoning and arrangements, one will wonder why Secondus won the congress. Few months later , facts emerged that , he was sponsored by main gladiators in the party to suit their desires, goals and objectives. The 2017 congress that produced Secondus was the beginning of the party problems, from zones to states, to local government and wards. What should one expect from a party who inflicted pains on the common man for bad sixteen years?
Saraki Reconciliation Committee
After 2019 general election, PDP suffers major set back , most of its forest strong trees lost re election, from the then Senate president, Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki who lost woefully along with his anointed candidates in Kwara State, Kano state is another ground , where the owner of Kwankwasiyya Movement Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also lost re election along side his party anointed Candidates, magic moment safe the Re-election of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and ego paved way for Governor Mutawalle of Zanfara states among others.
November 24, 2020 was the beginning of another problem for PDP , Sen. Bukola Saraki was announced as the chairman of its national reconciliation committee alongside five other members. To many, the problem will become multiplied ranging from the fact that Saraki himself belong to a group within the party. In Kano State, Saraki was said to have romanced politically with Ambassador Wali’s Faction against Senator Kwankwaso’s faction,in Ekiti state Saraki had earlier showed interest in Senator Biodun Olujimi’s faction against Former Governor Ayo Fayose’s faction, in cross river state he identified with Senator Liyel Imoke’s faction against Governor Ben Ayade’s leadership among others, yet he was made the the chairman of a committee that was saddled to reconcile the aggrieved party chiefs.
Saraki’s committee has failed just like his party failed Nigerians for Sixteen years, let me recall recent memories for clarification. 2019 election in Kwara state was a shocker to Saraki and his cohorts, Goliath was killed and his elephants were roasted for Suya(a name for Hausa local meat), Saraki lost not because he is not popular but because of his bad leadership styles that have put Kwara State in stagnation for more than 16years , the rest are history.
Despite his reconciliation committee pictures online and sweet words, in Just six months , PDP has lost two Sitting Governors from south south and south East respectively to the ruling party APC , Governor David Umehi of Ebonyi State and Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State . Over the last few months, the party lost more than two thousands members to the ruling party , and recently hundreds of party members decamped to the ruling All Progressive Congress in Baruteen Local Government of Kwara State , this is a slap on Saraki’s face , it shows he was not able to do his home work talk less of handling national assignment, charity begins at home.
The hullabaloo going on in PDP will continue , as long as the party made enemy(Saraki) the chairman of the committee that saddled with the responsibility to settle differences among enemies within the party. PDP need to be cautious or continue to wallow in pain and quest for power.
