Kwara State Sets to Hold Its First Book and Arts Festival

A poetry collective known as poetry in a million voices [PIAM] is set to hold the first book and arts festival in Kwara State [KWABAFEST].

According to Hussein Abdulbasit, the convener, the festival will highlight the cultural, artistic, and intellectual prowess of Kwara State and its residents.

Throughout Kwara State’s urban history, despite its deep and diverse artistry, there’s yet to be a state wide gathering or celebration of either the arts or its artists. KWABAFEST aims to disrupt that, according to PIAM.

The festival is proposed to hold in late August and meant to be a three-day event. Being the first, the proposed theme, according to organizers, is to explore stories that talk about beginnings and raise awareness of arts and intellect among the general public. “Since it is the first of its kind, a theme that tells the story from the beginning would be more significant to the public,” said the convener.

The proposed guest and speaker list includes Tunde Kelani, Dike Chukwumerije, Peju Alatise, Maryam Bukhar, Beuatiful Nubia, Huwa Okowa, Professor Albdulrasheed Na’Allah, Professor Aderemi Raji, and A’aisha Abdulkareem.

“KWABAFEST encompasses all that is art, beautiful, and creative – from voices, to painting, to words, dance, drama, food, and culture,” said the convener.

KWABAFEST – the first of its kind – is a festival celebrating art, culture, and intellect in Kwara State. The festival will exhibit and inspire conversations on culture creativity and art in the state. It will also breed new voices along with establishing the link between arts and the contemporary states.
Activities will include contests, book readings, workshops, exhibitions and performances, conversations and panel discussions, movie night and discourse, and a tour to places of cultural significance in the state.
