    Commonwealth Games 2022: Nigeria wins historic gold and bronze medals in women’s discus

    Chioma Onyekwere has won a gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s discus throw at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

    Onyekwere emerged victorious after she threw 61.7 meters in her third attempt. The

    61.70m throw is her season’s best.

    England’s Jade Lally won the silver medal with a 58.42m throw while Current national champion, Obiageri Amaechi, who is also representing Nigeria, claimed the bronze medal with a 56.99m throw.

    At the end of Day 5, Team Nigeria has eight medals; three gold, one silver, and four bronze but have dropped to the 10th spot on the medals tables.

    Australia still leads the medals chart with a total of 86 medals – 34 gold, 24 silver, and 28 bronze, while the hosts, England are second with 27 gold, 28 silver, and 17 bronze with a total of 72 medals.

    New Zealand is third with 24 medals – 13 gold, seven silver, and five bronze.
