Nigerian wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye has won a gold medal in the women’s 57kg Freestyle wrestling for Team Nigeria at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The 28-year-old defeated her Indian opponent, Anshu Malik 6-4 (VPO1) to secure Nigeria’s first gold medal in Wrestling, and defend the crown she won four years ago.

Before reaching the final, the reigning African champion defeated Canada’s Hannah Taylor in the semis in a swashbuckling 10-0 victory.

Nigeria has so far won six gold medals including two silver and five bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
