… Condemns Principal Who Defiled Minors in Ilorin.
The organization read with sadness, the news of the principal, simply named as Prosper in Ilorin who defiled seven minors and is now on the run. The act exhibited by the principal is totally barbaric and Rising Child Foundation condemns it in its entirety.
Schools are supposed to be a safe space for our children, but with the current reality, nowhere is looking safe, as the guardians of morals and education are equally culpable in the rot.
The foundation hopes the fleeing principal is caught as soon as possible and made to face the full wrath of the law.
In her fight against Gender Based Violence, the organization has recently visited key stakeholders in the state; Ministry of Women Affairs, Security agencies, heads of tertiary institutions, community leaders and others.
The foundation also trained 25 young females, also known as “GBV Champions” to carry out advocacy in their various local communities. Recently, the Champions have been on radio shows to educate people and the ills of Gender Based Violence.
They also embarked on a market drive to Oja Oba and Ganmo market, where they sensitized marketers about Gender Based Violence.
Whilst being in groups advocating in Kwara Central and Kwara South, the Champions have been to schools, summer schools, communities, religious centers and traditional leaders to sensitize the populace about GBV.
As part of her commitment to ending GBV, the organization aims to form GBV clubs across secondary schools in the state in order to have a pipeline for reportage of GBV cases.
The foundation also recently launched a digital platform tagged “sorosoke platform” for learning about Gender Based Violence. The platform contains quizzes well tailored to help users understand what Gender Based Violence is and what steps to take in the case of an abuse.
According to the Executive Director, Ms. Taibat Hussain, “we must be proactive in solving this menace, the time has come to put more effort into prevention rather than sympathizing with victims when the deed is done, for GBV is an ugly experience no one wants to experience”.
The foundation implores the government and other key stakeholders to collaborate more while actively seeking to eradicate Gender Based Violence in Kwara State.
Finally, Gender Based Violence is another pandemic that we must not allow to thrive in our society.
