Shortly after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms at the Presidential Villa, on Tuesday, a name stood out.

It is Orire Agbaje, a 400-level Economics student from the University of Ibadan. Despite her status, Agbaje and other tax experts, and key private sector stakeholders have been saddled with the responsibility of harmonizing taxes in the country to boost revenue.

According to Tinubu, “The Committee, in the first instance, is expected to deliver a schedule of quick reforms that can be implemented within 30 days.

“Critical reform measures should be recommended within six months, and full implementation will take place within one calendar year.”

Taiwo Oyedele, a tax and fiscal policy expert, is the committee’s chairman.
