The recent approval of N110 billion by the Federal Government through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for selected medical institutions across Nigeria has been received with great optimism, especially in the North Central region. Among the standout beneficiaries is the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), which has secured N4 billion to upgrade its medical education infrastructure, 750 million in Hostel infrastructure expansion, and almost 2.5 Billion in Medical Simulation laboratory —an achievement linked directly to the purposeful leadership and advocacy of Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi, the North Central representative on the TETFund Board of Trustees.

Engr. Adeyemi, a proud son of Kwara State and a passionate advocate for educational advancement, has used his position on the board to draw critical attention and investment to North Central institutions. His commitment to equitable development has ensured that the region benefits meaningfully from national initiatives. Other notable North Central institutions listed for this transformative TETFund intervention include:

    University of Jos, Plateau State

    Benue State University, Benue

These allocations are part of a larger N1.5 trillion strategic investment aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s medical education system and halting the mass emigration of medical professionals—commonly known as the “Japa” trend. The initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing training facilities, and improving learning environments across medical faculties.

Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun’s impact extends beyond infrastructural advocacy. As a Member of the Steering Committee on Alternative Energy Solutions for Tertiary Institutions, he is also championing sustainability and energy efficiency, working to ensure institutions can run smarter and greener through the adoption of renewable energy sources.

This milestone underscores the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration continues to prioritize education as a cornerstone for national development. His support for robust intervention in medical education, through agencies like TETFund, reflects a forward-thinking approach to rebuilding Nigeria’s healthcare and academic workforce.

Appreciation is also due to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, whose oversight and coordination have been critical to the smooth execution of these interventions. Of course, Rt. Hon. HE Aminu Bello Masari deserves a ton of credit as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TETFund for his leadership that drives equity and justice across all regions. Special thanks also go to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, whose leadership has been pivotal in driving these transformative initiatives.

This collective achievement reflects what is possible when purposeful leadership meets responsive governance. The North Central region celebrates Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi—not only for his strategic role in these interventions—but also for his enduring vision of inclusive and transformative development.
