Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi, Member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), representing the North Central geopolitical zone, has undertaken a familiarisation visit to Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja) and the College of Education, Zuba, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The visit forms part of his ongoing assessment of TETFund’s interventions across institutions in the zone.
In his remarks, Engr. Adeyemi noted that the Fund has continued to design and implement strategic intervention lines to address prevailing challenges confronting tertiary institutions, including distressed projects, disaster response, and security concerns. He further highlighted TETFund’s ongoing investment in workshops, laboratories, and innovation hubs to enhance teaching, research, and service delivery to students.
Speaking on government’s commitment, the BOT member explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, remains resolute in repositioning tertiary institutions to fulfil their core mandates of education, research, and community development. He stressed that Nigerian graduates must be adequately equipped with knowledge and practical skills to contribute significantly to the nation’s economy.
Engr. Adeyemi also emphasised the importance of deepening collaboration between academia, industry, and government as a strategy for unlocking Nigeria’s full potential and ensuring citizens actively participate in national development.
In their responses, the management teams of both institutions commended TETFund for its visionary leadership, policy support, and funding interventions, which have enhanced their competitiveness among peer institutions. They also appealed for additional targeted support in key areas to boost productivity and institutional growth.
