The Kwara State government has ordered the temporary closure of schools across five local government areas following recent bandit attacks in the state.

The decision comes in the wake of a violent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in the Eruku community of Ekiti LGA on Tuesday, November 18. The incident left three people dead, while an unspecified number of worshipers were abducted.

Ibraheem Abdullateef, Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Kwara State Government, confirmed the shutdown, naming the affected LGAs as Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero.

Abdullateef said the measure was taken in response to the escalating security concerns in the region. He added that the schools will remain closed until the government receives adequate security clearance to guarantee safe learning conditions.

“The combined security forces have started operations to restore calm and strengthen peace and safety in the affected communities,” he said.

“The situation is being monitored closely.

“As much as qualitative learning, we are invested in creating a safer environment for schoolchildren.”
