Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved up three spots in the latest FIFA rankings, climbing from 41st in October to 38th, despite failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the FIFA Football rankings released on Thursday, November 20, the Super Eagles remain fifth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

During the period under review, Nigeria played two matches. The West Africans triumphed 4-1 over the Gabonese Panthers in the semi-final of the playoffs but were subsequently eliminated by the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Leopards, losing 4-3 on penalties in the final.

On the global stage, Spain maintained the top spot, followed by Argentina, France, and England. Brazil moved up two places to fifth, overtaking both the Netherlands and Portugal, who now occupy sixth and seventh positions respectively. Belgium remains eighth, while Germany and Croatia round out the top 10.

The latest rankings reflect a mix of surprises and expected performances, with Nigeria showing resilience despite missing out on the next World Cup.
