Armed bandits struck the Tarah community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting nine residents and injuring one person in the arm.
According to local reports, the attack occurred on Tuesday night, shortly after the community’s vigilante group was redeployed to nearby Katsira, leaving the village vulnerable. The security gap reportedly emboldened the attackers, who descended on the community in large numbers.
Despite the chaos, local youths quickly mobilized to confront the bandits. Residents believe their swift action prevented what could have escalated into a mass abduction.
The incident has once again heightened fear among community members, who say they continue to feel exposed despite ongoing security operations in Sabon Birni and neighboring areas.
Authorities are yet to release details on any arrests, as the community and security agencies work to ensure safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
