Police in Accra, Ghana, have arrested a man for the alleged murder of his 13-year-old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, at Kokrobite in the Weija area.
According to reports, Celestine was subjected to severe physical abuse by her father, Isaac Adonteng. Despite sustaining multiple injuries, he allegedly failed to seek medical attention and confined her to a room.
Police, acting on a complaint, visited the home and found the girl unconscious. She was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
Authorities recovered items from the scene, including a cutlass and a metal pipe, believed to have been used in the assault.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command warned parents and guardians against using excessive force in disciplining children, stressing that such acts are criminal offences with potentially devastating consequences.
