Madrid authorities say an 18-year-old suspected jihadist was tasered and later shot by elite counter-terror police after allegedly stabbing three people in the Puente de Vallecas district while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” The suspect reportedly attempted to attack officers while reciting verses from the Quran inside his flat.
The standoff ended when officers, after their Taser guns failed to subdue him, fired four shots. The teenager was taken to Gregorio Marañón Hospital under police guard.
The attack occurred on Saturday after police received reports of a man armed with a large knife. An elderly woman reportedly sustained neck injuries, and two men were also injured, including one with a two-inch chest wound. All victims received medical treatment, and none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Authorities said the suspect’s brother alerted police that the teen had barricaded himself in the home with a knife and was behaving aggressively. Officers classified the situation as an “Islamist terrorist incident” and deployed a specialist anti-terror unit to surround the building.
Police said they initially tasered the suspect twice, but he continued to attempt attacks on officers, prompting them to use firearms. Officials stated, “We want to show our support to the companions who acted to neutralise a radicalised young man who had attacked three people. It was an absolutely proportionate response.”
The suspect was reportedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
This stabbing comes just days after a separate attack in which a driver shouting “Allahu Akbar” ran into ten people on a holiday island, in what authorities described as a deliberate act involving a car carrying gas canisters.
