Eight farmers were abducted in a fresh bandit attack in Gandun Wasagu community, Wasagu Ward, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Saturday, November 22.

The Local Government Chairman, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, confirmed the incident to Punch, stating that the attackers struck while farmers were working in their fields. One person was shot during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Wasagu General Hospital.

“We are working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of those abducted,” Bena said. He added that the military, already operating in the area, has launched a pursuit to rescue the victims.

Residents report that the gunmen, believed to have crossed over from neighboring Zamfara State, carried out the attack for several minutes before escaping with their victims.

One local, identified as Sani, described the incident as frightening:

“People are afraid to go back to the farms now. This is the second time in less than two weeks. We don’t know what will happen next if nothing is done.”

Security analyst Bakatsine highlighted the broader implications on social media, warning that the pattern of attacks underscores a fragile security situation in the region:

“The situation in Wasagu is becoming desperate. We need urgent, coordinated action before these communities are completely overwhelmed.”

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have pledged to take measures to ensure the safe release of the abducted farmers.
