Old Trafford Frustrations Return as Manchester United Crash to Everton in Another Woeful Performance

Manchester United have been accused of slipping back into their “default setting” after a frustrating 1–0 defeat to Everton at Old Trafford—despite playing almost the entire match with a one-man advantage following Idrissa Gueye’s 13th-minute red card.

The loss brought an abrupt end to United’s five-game unbeaten run under manager Ruben Amorim, whose promising start is now facing renewed scrutiny. Critics argue that the Portuguese coach has been too rigid with his tactical setup, refusing to adapt even as the team’s performances have declined in recent weeks.

The defeat also exposed deeper issues within the squad, particularly in midfield, defence, and attacking cohesion. Former United captain Gary Neville did not mince words in his post-match analysis, branding the display “embarrassing” and pointing out persistent weaknesses that the team has failed to address.

Everton, led by David Moyes, capitalised brilliantly on United’s poor organisation and individual errors. Gueye’s early dismissal—after a heated clash with Michael Keane—should have shifted the momentum in United’s favour, but instead became a turning point for Everton. The visitors maintained their defensive discipline, frustrated United throughout, and snatched a vital victory at Old Trafford.

The result is a significant setback for Manchester United’s Premier League title ambitions and raises serious questions about their consistency, mentality, and tactical direction moving forward.
