Nigerian gospel singer Shola Allyson has left fans surprised with a candid revelation about her marriage.

In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 54-year-old singer — famed for her classic love album Eji Owuro — disclosed that she is still married but no longer lives with her husband.

“I’m married, but I’m not in my husband’s house. We live separately,” she revealed.

Allyson explained that the fairytale notion of marriage often portrayed in society has never reflected her reality. Asked whether she ever experienced genuine love, she shared that previous generations misled many into believing that love alone guarantees a happy home.

“We lied before. Those older than us didn’t inform us that it’s tough. They made us believe that so long as you both love each other, you will live happily ever after, but it’s a lie. That’s not the experience I have. I didn’t have the experience of living happily ever after. I did all I could to make it work.”

Her honest confession has sparked reactions online, with many fans expressing admiration for her vulnerability and openness about the challenges behind the public persona of a celebrated gospel singer.
