The Imo State Government has shut down a hotel and a private mortuary in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala, allegedly used by kidnappers and violent criminals.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, December 6, 2025, uncovered decomposed and mutilated corpses in unhygienic conditions, sparking suspicions of illegal organ-harvesting activities.
A high-powered delegation, led by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, included the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu; Chief Pathologist of Imo State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Ibeaja Okechukwu; members of the Ngor-Okpala Vigilante Group; and the Chairman of Ngor-Okpala LGA, Hon. Mrs. Chika Ibekwe. They inspected the suspected hideouts following credible intelligence on the owner, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who remains at large.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed that the hotel and mortuary were owned by Oparaugo and allegedly used by criminal elements. At the mortuary, forensic investigators discovered decomposed and mutilated bodies, leading to the immediate closure of both facilities by government order.
Police also searched Oparaugo’s residence, recovering crucial exhibits, which were documented and secured by forensic experts.
CP Danjuma assured the public that all accomplices would be identified and brought to justice. Oparaugo has been declared WANTED, and anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600.
The Command further announced that maximum security has been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway to ensure the safety of travelers during the holiday season.
