A young nurse, Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, has been killed by suspected members of the notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate in Abuja. The incident occurred on January 3, 2026, shortly after she concluded her afternoon shift at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi.
Her lifeless body was discovered dumped by the roadside the following morning and deposited at the FMC Jabi mortuary.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), FCT Council, described her murder as a senseless and wicked act. In a statement, Chairman Comr. Jama D. Medan called on security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC—to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
The statement read in part:
“The deceased nurse spent her day saving lives and tragically never made it home alive. This attack is not only on the nursing profession but on healthcare workers and humanity at large.”
NANNM also urged the government to strengthen security around hospitals and major commuting points, provide safe transportation for healthcare workers, and ensure that nurses can perform their duties without fear for their lives.
The association extended heartfelt condolences to Chinemerem’s family, FMC management, and the nursing community, emphasizing the urgent need for justice and protection for healthcare workers in the Federal Capital Territory.
