President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made history by appointing Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, marking the first time a woman will lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
The appointment, announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes effect on January 10, 2026, and will run for a four-year tenure. Odusote succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year term ends on January 9, 2026.
Odusote, 54, currently serves as Deputy Director General and Head of the Lagos Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Surrey, specializing in public law, company, and commercial law.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 and has risen through the ranks, serving as Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She has also been a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University and has published extensively in both local and international law journals.
In her new role as DG, Dr. Odusote will oversee the academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction of all Nigerian Law School campuses. She will also serve as the primary liaison between the Law School, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
Her appointment is celebrated as a historic milestone for the Nigerian legal education system, highlighting progress in gender representation at the highest levels of the profession.
