Manchester United have released an official statement after confirming that club captain Bruno Fernandes’ X account was compromised following the team’s FA Cup third-round exit to Brighton.

The breach occurred late on Sunday night, with a series of unusual posts appearing on the midfielder’s account shortly after 11 p.m. The posts surfaced in the aftermath of United’s elimination from the competition.

Among the messages published by the hackers was a post stating, “Join Macclesfield FC. Excited for the future,” a reference to the National League North side that knocked FA Cup holders Crystal Palace out of the tournament on Saturday.

Another post appeared to target the club’s ownership, calling for the removal of INEOS. Additional messages tagged adult film star Bonnie Blue, the England cricket team, YouTuber KSI, and world darts champion Luke Littler.

One of the final posts shared an image of Manchester United’s 7–0 defeat to Liverpool in 2023.

In response, the club issued a statement confirming the hack and advising supporters to avoid interacting with the account.

“Bruno Fernandes’ X account has been hacked,” the statement read. “Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages until further notice.”

The club has not yet provided an update on whether full control of the account has been restored.
