The Executive Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Council, Joseph Keffi, has condemned a recent violent incident in the Wurukum area of Makurdi, Benue State, and announced measures to strengthen local security.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved the death of a local resident. Following the event, Keffi designated Wurukum, in Walomayo Council Ward, as a place of particular concern due to the rise of youth-related violence in the area.
In response, the council has initiated several measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing further incidents. These include convening an emergency security meeting with youth stakeholders to address the root causes of criminal activity and promote unity and safety within the community.
Chairman Keffi also called on young people in the area to avoid criminal involvement and encouraged residents to cooperate with local authorities to maintain peace and communal harmony.
The council reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and strengthening security efforts across the local government.
