Senegal’s Sadio Mané was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while Morocco’s Brahim Diaz claimed the Golden Boot in an emotional conclusion to the tournament at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

Diaz had been Morocco’s standout performer throughout the competition, scoring five goals in his first five matches and carrying hopes of a first-ever AFCON title for the hosts.

The heartbreak came in stoppage time of the final when Diaz was awarded a penalty following a VAR review. A successful conversion would have secured victory for Morocco, but the forward’s Panenka attempt was mishit, allowing Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to save the shot in the 90+24th minute.

Despite the disappointment in the final moments, Diaz’s consistent scoring earned him the Golden Boot, recognizing his stellar performance throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Mané’s leadership and decisive contributions helped Senegal lift their second continental title, earning him the well-deserved MVP award.

The final was a dramatic mix of triumph and heartbreak, showcasing the talent and emotion that defined AFCON 2025.
