Sheikh Bashir Soliu, the Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State, has passed away, 360vibezmedia gathered. His death on Monday has thrown the Ilorin Emirate and the entire Muslim community into mourning. While the cause of his death remain unclear, credible sources from Emir’s place confirmed the development.

Born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Sheikh Soliu dedicated decades to Islamic learning, teaching, and leadership, becoming one of the most influential Islamic figures in the state. He served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, a position he held for over 40 years following his appointment in 1983.

During his tenure, Sheikh Soliu was widely respected for his profound knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, firm leadership in religious matters, and unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and religious tolerance within the Muslim community and broader society.

Often referred to as Imam Fulani, he was appointed by the former Emir of Ilorin, Zuluqarnain Muhammadu Gambari, following the death of Imam Musa Ahmad. His father, Imam Saliu Omo Onida Abdulkadir, had also served as the 7th Chief Imam of Ilorin, continuing a distinguished legacy of religious scholarship.

Sheikh Soliu’s death marks the end of an era for the Ilorin Emirate, where his guidance and leadership were highly valued by both religious and community leaders.
