The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed optimism about the future of the Super Eagles under head coach Éric Chelle, following their strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Gusau noted that the national team appears to have turned a corner after the disappointment of missing consecutive FIFA World Cups, highlighting their performance in Morocco where they finished third and secured bronze medals.

While acknowledging that the ultimate goal of lifting the AFCON trophy was not achieved, Gusau praised the team’s resilience, commitment, and patriotic spirit throughout the tournament.

“Actually, when we landed in Morocco towards the end of last year, our objective was to win the AFCON trophy and be the champions of Africa. Today, we finished in third place and won the bronze medals instead,” Gusau said.

“We missed our target, but my joy is in the way our team played. They played with zest and patriotic fervour, and showed resilience and character.”

The NFF president also recognized the crucial support provided by the Federal Government, describing it as instrumental to the team’s successful campaign.

Gusau’s remarks underline the federation’s confidence in Chelle’s leadership and the belief that the Super Eagles are on a path toward greater achievements in future tournaments.
