Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is set to officially return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, following his recent resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The announcement was made in a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Yusuf was previously a member of the APC, having joined the party in 2014 when he became its candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat. He later stepped down in favour of the party’s leader at the time, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The statement explained that Yusuf’s decision to return to the ruling party was influenced by what it described as the realities of governance, the need for national unity, and development priorities.

Yusuf was quoted as saying that rejoining the APC would improve collaboration with the Federal Government, speed up infrastructure development, strengthen security coordination, and enhance service delivery in Kano State.

He also expressed confidence that the move would promote political stability and unity within the state.

As part of the development, the governor is expected to formally register as an APC member in Kano on Monday. He will reportedly be joined by 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

The event will also feature the launch of the APC’s electronic registration (e-registration) exercise.
