The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued an 84-year-old man who was found inside a well in the Aboru community of the Agbado-Oke Odo Local Council Development Area.
The agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. According to her, preliminary findings indicate the elderly man may have jumped into the well.
The service said it received a distress call at 10:09 a.m. reporting the emergency at No. 35A Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru. A rescue crew, alongside personnel from the Abesan Fire Station, was immediately deployed and arrived at the scene by 10:20 a.m.
Officials stated that the well, estimated to be about 140 feet deep, was properly secured, making the circumstances surrounding the incident unusual.
The victim was successfully brought out of the well by the rescue team and handed over to his family for further care. Authorities noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response and urged residents to promptly report emergencies and seek help when in distress.
