Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has highlighted the need for professionalism and mutual respect when actors are required to perform intimate scenes on set.
In a recent interview with BBC News Igbo, Arukwe explained that he prioritises having open conversations with female colleagues before filming such scenes. According to him, discussing personal boundaries ahead of time helps both actors understand what is comfortable and acceptable during the shoot.
The actor noted that these discussions are important in avoiding awkward situations and ensuring that everyone involved feels respected while working.
“I make it a habit to talk about boundaries with any actress I’m paired with before we start filming,” he said. “We agree on what is acceptable so that no one feels uncomfortable.”
Arukwe added that he is careful about physical contact during intimate scenes and avoids touching areas that could make the actress or her partner uneasy.
He further stressed that being a married man makes it important for him to maintain respect and professionalism at all times while working with female colleagues on set.
Arukwe, who gained broader recognition for portraying Odogwu Paranran in Omoni Oboli’s Love in Every Word, also reacted to rumours suggesting he has romantic relationships with some of his female colleagues.
The actor dismissed the speculation, stressing that his interactions with actresses are purely professional. He maintained that he remains focused on his marriage and committed to his career in the film industry.
Addressing the rumours, Arukwe said the claims linking him with different women are unfounded, noting that what audiences see on screen is simply part of his job as an actor.
He also explained that the Odogwu Paranran role significantly boosted his visibility in the industry.
“The rumours about me being involved with different women are not true. What people see in movies is just part of the work I do. The Odogwu character opened more opportunities for me and brought greater attention to my career. Many people now recognise me because of that role,” he said.
