A Belarusian court on Friday sentenced Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights activist Ales Bialiatski to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of bankrolling protests. The European Union condemned the trial describing it as a “sham”, according to a report by Reuters. Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, adding that he was quitting partisan politics. His announcement came hours after his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, lost the presidential election to the ruling All Progressives Congress. Nigerian star vocalist, Ayra Starr has reacted to widespread rumors of being in a relationship with her colleague, Rema. The afro-pop singer cleared the air on this while speaking in a recent interview on Kiss FM, a Kenyan station. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered that old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes remain in circulation till December 31, 2023. The apex court also nullified the Federal Government’s naira redesign policy, declaring it as an affront to the 1999 Constitution. Justice Emmanuel Agim, who read the lead judgement, held that the preliminary objections by the defendants (the Attorney General of the Federation, Bayelsa and Edo states) are dismissed as the court has the jurisdiction to entertain the suit.
