Nigerian sprinter and World Champion, Tobi Amusan, has been nominated for 2022 Women’s World Athlete of the Year. The 25-year-old, who is the current world’s record holder for 100m hurdles, made the list alongside nine others. The World Athletics (WA) said on Wednesday that the list was compiled by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas. President Buhari has sworn in Justice Ariwoola Olukayode as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN. Justice Ariwoola took the judicial oath of office in a brief ceremony at the Council Chambers in Abuja before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President today October 12. In July, the president asked the senate to confirm the appointment of Ariwoola as the substantive CJN. The Senate confirmed his appointment on September 21.

A 37-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for allegedly defrauding a woman of $5,000 on Facebook. The suspect identified simply as ‘Kel Chi’ was arrested on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022 by the light criminal police department of the Ministry of Interior and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action. According to local media, the 24-year-old victim, Un Srey Net, was approached with a Facebook account named Don Richard in August 2022. The International Monetary Fund, IMF, has predicted that Nigeria’s economic growth will slow to 3.0 percent in 2023, while the inflation rate drops to 17 percent. Making these projections in the IMF October World Economic Outlook, WEO, released on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF/World Bank annual meetings, in Washington DC, the Monetary Fund called for fiscal policies that support current efforts by central banks to curb inflation as well as protect the vulnerable population from inflation. Video streaming giant, Netflix has signed up to the TV ratings agency Barb, which means its viewing figures and audiences will be measured by an external, independent body for the first time in its history. Previously, the streaming giant has only released snapshots of its viewing data, highlighting the success of its most popular shows but now Barb will become the first industry-owned ratings service in the world that Netflix has joined.
