The federal government says it is proposing legislation to ban the consumption of animal skin, locally known as ponmo, in the country to revive tanneries. Muhammad Yakubu, director-general, Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, said this in Abuja on Sunday. Yakubu said the litigation was necessary to revive the comatose leather industry in the country. He said the habit of eating animal skin, which has no nutritional value, should be stopped to save the industry and boost the nation’s economy. On Monday, 19th September 2022, Dammy Krane took to his Twitter account to demand that Davido pay him for co-writing the hook of his single ‘Pere’ which features American group Rae Sremmurd and rapper Young Thug. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday sentenced kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, and his co-defendant, Victor Aduba, to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping one Sylvanus Hafia. They were accused of conspiring and kidnapping Sylvanus Ahanonu Hafia at about 5:30 pm on June 23, 2014, at Kara Street, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos and were alleged to have captured and detained Hafia and demanded a ransom of $2m. But they pleaded not guilty to the four charges. The judge held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other aspiring kidnappers.

The Imo State House of Assembly has removed its speaker Kennedy Ibe and replaced him with Emeka Nduka. Emeka Nduka was elected today, September, 19. Nduka, who represents the Ehime Mbano State Constituency, was immediately sworn-in by the Clerk of the Assembly, Chinelo Emeghara. Ibe, who represents the Obowo State constituency was elected as speaker in November 2021, after Paul Emezim was impeached as the speaker. Ibe was on suspension when he was elected as the number one man of the legislature. The Imo State House of Assembly has now had four speakers in three years following Nduka’s election.
