Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday sentenced kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, and his co-defendant, Victor Aduba, to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping one Sylvanus Hafia. They were accused of conspiring and kidnapping Sylvanus Ahanonu Hafia at about 5:30 pm on June 23, 2014, at Kara Street, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos and were alleged to have captured and detained Hafia and demanded a ransom of $2m. But they pleaded not guilty to the four charges. The judge held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other aspiring kidnappers.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it would conduct  a supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 67 candidates on Saturday, September 24,2022. JAMB’s Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin said the supplementary exam was fixed for the candidates after reviewing the entire exercise. The Imo State House of Assembly has removed its speaker Kennedy Ibe and replaced him with Emeka Nduka. Emeka Nduka was elected today, September, 19. Nduka, who represents the Ehime Mbano State Constituency, was immediately sworn-in by the Clerk of the Assembly, Chinelo Emeghara. Ibe, who represents the Obowo State constituency was elected as speaker in November 2021, after Paul Emezim was impeached as the speaker. Ibe was on suspension when he was elected as the number one man of the legislature. The Imo State House of Assembly has now had four speakers in three years following Nduka’s election.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’abba, has said that Governors have been the country’s issue since 1999. Na’abba made the claim while hosting a delegation of the Na’abba Youth Organization. Peoples Democratic Party’s lawsuit seeking the disqualification of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has been dismissed by a federal high court sitting in Abuja. The federal government’s move to obtain a court order to suspend the ongoing ASUU strike suffered a setback on Friday, September 16, as the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) refused to hear the application.
