The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N470bn special fund in the 2023 budget for university revitalization and upward review of lecturers’ salaries. The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, made this known at a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, October 19. She explained that the sum was specially provided in the allocation to education for upward adjustment of salaries for university lecturers and revitalization of universities. N300 billion is for university revitalization while N170 billion is for an upward review of university lecturers’ salaries, the Finance Minister said. The Lagos State Judicial Service Commission has terminated the appointments of Magistrates Oluwatoyin Gwendolyn Oghre and Humenu Olajuwon Amos as members of the State Judiciary for misconduct. In a statement signed and released by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, the commission said the termination of appointments of both magistrates was effected after a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct leveled against them was carried out and found to be culpable. The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, passed on at the age of 66. Afuye, who represents Ikere constituency 1, died on Wednesday, October 19, around 6 pm. He was said to have been rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado-Ekiti in the early hours of today after developing complications over an undisclosed ailment. Afuye, a lawyer, was said to have died after attempts by medical doctors to save his life failed.
