The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old strike conditionally, a member of the union’s National Executive Committee told Channels TV early Friday. ASUU decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday. A mechanic has been sentenced to 12 months jail term by a Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin for cybercrime offences. The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has discharged the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu was prosecuted by the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Abuja on a 15-count charge bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism, offenses he denied. Nigerian sprinter and World Champion, Tobi Amusan, has been nominated for 2022 Women’s World Athlete of the Year. President Buhari has sworn in Justice Ariwoola Olukayode as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN. Justice Ariwoola took the judicial oath of office in a brief ceremony at the Council Chambers in Abuja before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President today October 12. A 37-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for allegedly defrauding a woman of $5,000 on Facebook. The suspect identified simply as ‘Kel Chi’ was arrested on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022 by the light criminal police department of the Ministry of Interior and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action. The International Monetary Fund, IMF, has predicted that Nigeria’s economic growth will slow to 3.0 percent in 2023, while the inflation rate drops to 17 percent.
