The Federal Government says it has met almost 80 percent of the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. It disclosed this while describing the decision of ASUU to extend the six-month-old strike as unreasonable. A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari to the United States (US). Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment on Monday, held that the extradition application was an abuse of court process, on the grounds that Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before a Nigerian court. The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has begun initial findings into the federal payroll fraud committed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s new media aide Bashir Ahmad. The anti-graft agency told Peoples Gazette on Monday afternoon that Mr Ahmad’s action had been brought to the commission’s attention by way of HEDA Resource Centre, a public-interest think-tank run by anti-corruption campaigner Lanre Suraju. “We received a complaint and we have commenced an investigation,” ICPC spokeswoman Azuka Ogugua told The Gazette by telephone. “Our investigation is preliminary at this stage in order to establish accuracy of the information we received and then we take it from there.”…
