Magnus Abe, a former lawmaker representing Rivers South-East senatorial district has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Abe had announced his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress last week. At the time, he declined to disclose his new political affiliation. Pop star Shakira is reportedly facing up to eight years in prison she’s found guilty of an alleged massive £12m tax fraud. The Hips Don’t Lie’ singer, 45, is charged with defrauding the Spanish treasury out of millions over a three-year period between 2012 and 2014. Spanish prosecutors are pushing for the highest-possible sentence over six separate counts of tax fraud totalling 14.5 million euros (£12.2m). Alhaji Jibril Zarewa, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, Katsina, has blamed the low number of registered voters in Katsina State on the suspension of telecommunications services in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) due to insecurity. Bandits attacked a military checkpoint in Zuma Rock Madalla, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Thursday evening, July 28. Some soldiers were reportedly killed when the terrorists raided the military checkpoint situated around Zuma rock in Niger State which is close to Madalla town which is a few meters away from Zuba along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
