The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Wednesday, declared July 9 as Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah. Eid al-Adha will feature the slaughtering of ram during the period known as the “festival of sacrifice”. This is the second significant celebration in Islam after Eid el-Fitri which marks the end of Ramadan. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kwara State has adopted the former vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Shuaib AbdulRaheem as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election. The chairman of NNPP in the state, AbdulRazaq Abdulsalam announced this in Ilorin, the state capital yesterday, shortly after a meeting the stakeholders of the party had with Abdul-Raheem. “We have picked Prof Oba Shuaib AbdulRaheem as our governorship candidate. he Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has resigned from office. Channels TV reports that Justice Muhammad resigned on Sunday night, June 26, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision. Information also has it that arrangements are ongoing to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. Chairman the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig-General Mohamed Buba Marwa, has said that the case against embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, won’t be in court for long. Appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, Marwa said the conviction of two other defendants in the case is evidence that the matter will be treated with the urgency it deserves.
