President Buhari has condemned the “barbarous and wanton” killings in the South East and other parts of the country. In a tweet shared on his verified handle this afternoon, the President said the perpetrators of these killings should expect tough responses from security agents. His tweet reads; ”I strongly condemn the wild, barbarous and wanton killings of innocent people in the South-East, as well as in other parts of Nigeria. The perpetrators of these deeply distressing attacks should expect the toughest possible response from the security forces.”

Egyptian midfielder, Mohamed Elneny has signed a new contract with Arsenal football club of England. The Egypt international has scored five goals in 147 appearances since arriving at the Emirates from Swiss club Basel in 2016. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) threatened to sanction Nigeria over its decision to withdraw from international competitions for two years. This was conveyed in a letter signed by the World basketball body’s Head of Legal, Jaime Lamboy, and dated May 18, 2022. Business mogul and Chairman of Awliya foundation, Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal has picked the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial ticket in Kwara State. He picked the ticket at the primary election of the party held on Wednesday at the Party secretariat in Ilorin. The Central Bank of Nigeria has increased the country’s interest rate for the first time in two years. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has voted unanimously to raise the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 13%. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele made the announcement at the end committee’s meeting at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja. Emefiele justified the increment by saying the MPC suspects “there might be an aggressive accretion of inflation”. He added that in order to prevent the looming inflation, the MPC had to increase the monetary policy rate by 150 basis points.
