Business mogul and Chairman of Awliya foundation, Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal has picked the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial ticket in Kwara State. He picked the ticket at the primary election of the party held on Wednesday at the Party secretariat in Ilorin. Announcing the results, Lawal polled 33 votes to defeat his closest rival, Prof. Oba Abdulraheem, who had 16 votes. Tajudeen Audu and Engr. Sunday Babalola polled 10 and 2 votes respectively. The Central Bank of Nigeria has increased the country’s interest rate for the first time in two years. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has voted unanimously to raise the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 13%. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele made the announcement at the end committee’s meeting at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja. Emefiele justified the increment by saying the MPC suspects “there might be an aggressive accretion of inflation”. He added that in order to prevent the looming inflation, the MPC had to increase the monetary policy rate by 150 basis points.

The President said this on Monday May 23, during the 58th anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) held at the NAF base in Kano. The Federal Government and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on Monday May 23, won the case against the state governors over the financial autonomy from the Local Government joint account. Ahmed Dikko, NFIU’s chief media analyst said in a statement that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court delivered the judgement. The NFIU had in June 2019 issued guidelines aimed at curbing crime vulnerabilities created by cash withdrawals from local government accounts by various state governments.
