Fast food retail giant, McDonald’s has announced it will permanently leave Russia after 30 years. In March McDonald’s said it was temporarily closing its roughly 850 restaurants in the country as part of the economic fallout following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Chicago-based company, owns 84% of its stores in Russia, and has said that its restaurants there and in Ukraine contributed 9% of its annual revenue, or around $2bn (£1.6bn). President Muhammadu Buhari and the attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN) have filed a suit against the National Assembly at the Supreme Court. In the lawsuit which has the national assembly as the sole respondent, the plaintiffs sought for an interpretation of the controversial Section 84(12) in the Electoral Amendment Act 2022. The world’s richest man, Elon Musk has put his deal to buy Twitter on hold, albeit temporarily.
