A support group has procured the N100 million APC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan. According to Premium Times Report, the group procured the forms on for him on Monday at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja. Britain has hit Russia with a third wave of trade sanctions including metal imports in the latest action against president Vladimir Putin’s regime. The UK slapped a new package of sanctions on Russia – along with Moscow’s ally Belarus aimed at £1.7billion worth of trade. A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the request by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) from taking any steps to prevent him from participating in the APC presidential primaries later this month. Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over an alleged plan to disqualify him from presidential primaries. In court documents obtained by Daily Trust, Emefiele, through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, argued that he is not a political appointee and by provision of the constitution, he is expected to resign a month before the February 25, 2023, presidential election. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its ongoing strike by three months. The decision was taken during the union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which held in Abuja on Sunday May 8. In a statement issued after the meeting, Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU president, said the extension takes effect from Monday, May 9, 2022. Osodeke said the extension is aimed at giving the government more time to satisfactorily resolve the issues. The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the applications of over 124 political parties, this newspaper has learned. According to a statement from the Deputy Director, SERVICOM at INEC, Okuonghae Olayide, 101 political groups applied to be registered as political parties between 2019 and December 2021. Further to this, 23 more political associations applied for registration between December 2021, and March 2022.
