Andrew Yakubu, the former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was overcome with emotions after he was cleared of money laundering charges. After a five-year legal battle, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, gave a judgement today, March 31, discharging and acquit ting Yakubu of the $9.8 million money laundering charge filed against him by the Federal Government (read here). The Nigerian Football Federation has terminated the appointment of Super Eagles technical crews. This was contained in a  statement on its website titled, ‘NFF disengages Super Eagles’ Technical Crew’, and signed by the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday March 30, that it is beginning disciplinary proceedings against actor Will Smith after he slapped Chris Rock on stage at Sunday night’s Oscars event. The embattled former Commander, Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, has rejected food offered him by the Nigerian Correctional Service after being remanded in prison custody on Monday. The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, it was learnt, opted for the food prepared by his wife or other family members. Kyari, who is under prosecution for drug trafficking alongside four other policemen, was denied bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The World Bank has projected that the number of poor people in Nigeria will hit 95.1m in 2022. In a report titled ‘A Better Future for All Nigerians: 2022 Nigeria Poverty Assessment’, the international financial agency noted that “poverty reduction in Nigeria appears to have stalled in the last decade”.
