The Ekiti state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has forwarded a bill to the State’s House of Assembly for the creation of additional 19 Local Government Areas in the state. Fayemi on Tuesday, August 3, in a statement by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda, said the bill called, ‘Creation of Local Government Bill, 2021’ was forwarded to the legislature for consideration and possible passage towards adding to the existing 16 council areas in the state. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted a flight ban on Nigerian travellers with effect from Thursday, August 5. This comes 5 months after the ban was put in place over Covid-19 protocols. Emirates announced on its website that the UAE authorities have announced that effective 5 August 2021, eligible travellers from Nigeria and 10 other countries will be allowed to travel to and through the UAE. The countries are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Vietnam, South Africa, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, issued an order unfreezing the bank account of the Chairman of Daar Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi. Justice Tsoho gave the order on Tuesday, August 3, while delivering a ruling on Dokpesi’s application argued by Mr Kanu Agabi. The judge ordered that the account domiciled at First Bank be immediately “unfrozen” since the criminal charges which precipitated the restriction on the account had been dismissed and Dokpesi discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal. Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie has said that Nigeria is currently experiencing a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Osagie who disclosed this at the press briefing of the presidential steering committee on COVID-19 on Monday August 1, called for state participation in sample collection, reporting, and treatment of cases. According to him, only 17 states made data or sample submissions in the last cycle. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has denied claims made by businessman, Mompha, that the commission advised him to maintain a low profile following the arrest of Hushpuppi. Mompha in an interview with Daddy Freeze over the weekend said he went off social media after Hushpuppi’s arrest but was advised to come back online by the antigraft agency so it doesn’t appear he is involved in Hushpuppi’s criminal activities.
