Nigeria’s chances of climbing the medal table at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 olympics have suffered a major setback after the athletics integrity unit (aiu) ruled that ten nigerian athletes are ineligible to participate. The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, secured the conviction of one Abubakar Abdulbashit Opeyemi, a final year student of the University of Ilorin, and two other undergraduate students charged with offenses bordering on love scam and internet fraud. The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, July 26, declined the request of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to be moved to Kuje Correctional Service Centre. Kanu has been in DSS custody since his arrest and extradition to Nigeria. He is on trial for treasonable felony. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lead counsel, early this month asked the court to transfer him from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to Kuje prison.
