Turkish giants, Fenerbahce have officially confirmed the signing of Mesut Ozil as a free agent after the midfielder terminated his £350,000 a week contract with Arsenal last weekend. The announcement finally brings an end to Ozil’s seven-and-a-half-year spell at Arsenal after he failed to make an appearance for the club since March 2020. The 32-year-old former Germany midfielder has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Turkish side.

Salihu Dovo, Chairman of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State has been reported killed by gunmen who kidnapped him early Sunday morning. It was gathered that the gunmen stormed Mr Dovo’s residence in Sabon Gari, Jalingo at about 1 a.m and thereafter abducted and killed him. Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, has said he is not scared of the police arresting him over the eviction notice he gave to the Fulanis in Oyo state. In an interview with BBC Yoruba, Igboho said he has been hearing that there are plans to get him arrested. 964 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Sunday, January 25, 2021. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos recorded 360 new cases, the highest for the day. Other states with new cases include FCT-88, Ogun-73, Imo-72, Kaduna-67, Plateau-57, Abia-41, Osun-41, Rivers-32, Kano-26, Niger-24, Benue-23, Edo-20, Cross River-20, Akwa Ibom-8, Nasarawa-6, Zamfara-6, Ekiti-6 and Jigawa-4. The agency also disclosed that they were 774 community recoveries in Lagos State. Nigeria now has a total of 121,566 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 97,228 patients have been discharged so far with 1,504 deaths recorded.

Singer Naira Marley has reacted to some school children being arrested by Amotekun operatives for modelling themselves as him. In the video which has gone viral,  a lady who is supposedly a teacher in the school portrayed the boys as criminals and also revealed that they were arrested in a bush. The National Assembly’s resumption which was initially scheduled for January 26 has been postponed till February 9. The postponement was revealed in a statement released by the clerk to the National Assembly, Ojo Olatunde Amos.
