Diplomats who will be resident in the country for more than two years have been directed by the federal government to get the national identity number (NIN). The Ekiti State Government has disclosed plans to procure sophisticated drones as part of efforts to boost surveillance, expose criminal hideouts and combat insecurity. In statement released by the state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Mr. Femi Ajayi revealed this at the weekend during the breakdown of the 2021 Appropriation Law with a budgetary provision of N109.666 billion. 1444 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Sunday, January 18, 2021. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos recorded 901 new cases, the highest for the day. Other states with new cases include Plateau-136, Kaduna-57, FCT-54, Ebonyi-53, Akwa Ibom-52, Nasarawa-32, Osun-29, Ogun-28, Imo-16, Oyo-16, Edo-15, Kano-14, Rivers-10, Ekiti-7, Borno-6, Abia-5, Benue-4, Yobe-4, Kebbi-3, and Anambra-2. The agency also disclosed that they were 717 community recoveries in Lagos State and 2,825 150 in FCT. The Nigeria Police Force has responded following reports that eighteen police officers were kidnapped by criminals along the Birnin Gwari – Funtua Highway on Friday, January 15.
