Opinion: The importance of cryptocurrencies for Africa - FurtherAfrica
Bunmi Akinyemiju, MD/CEO, Venture Garden Group (VGG) and Greenhouse Capital, believes that crypto in Africa holds a lot of promise. As a result Greenhouse Capital has invested in another startup, SureRemit. This fintech platform aims to provide a way to use cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to perform non-cash remittances into Nigeria, Rwanda and Kenya. The group also went on to raise over $6 million from an ICO.
They are suspected to be one of the most successful ICOs in Africa so far out of of well over 25. Bunmi Akinyemiju said, in a Moguldom interview for insight, that the Venture Garden Group is already experimenting with using blockchain technology for the power sector, owing to the fact that the power sector in Africa needs a lot of digital transformation, of which the backing of the government and Nigerian politicians can play an important part.

He and his team at VGG have already worked on leveraging blockchain and crypto for the purpose of international remittances, since this can be a big issue to: Nigerians, Ghanaians, Kenyans and other migrant workers, asides these three, from Africa who are in the U.K., U.S., China, and several other countries around the world, as money meant to be wired home takes so long to be sent and costs so much.

Bunmi Akinyemiju is no stranger to the financial side of business. He is also Director of RemX Limited, as well as a shareholder, alongside two others, Olubukunmi Demuren Olufemi and Eghosasere Nehikhare. RemX is a powerful platform aimed at providing invoice factoring and treasury management to businesses who might be facing cash flow challenges or need assistance in order to enjoy exponential growth.
