Business mogul and Chairman of Awliya foundation, Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal has picked the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial ticket in Kwara State.

He picked the ticket at the primary election of the party held on Wednesday at the Party secretariat in Ilorin.

Announcing the results, Lawal polled 33 votes to defeat his closest rival, Prof. Oba Abdulraheem, who had 16 votes. Tajudeen Audu and Engr. Sunday Babalola polled 10 and 2 votes respectively. Other contestants, Kale Belgore and Khaleel Bolaji had no votes.

Lawal, who is the son of the former governor of Kwara State – Muhammed Lawal, will battle the incumbent governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq – and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate.

While AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is clinching the APC ticket unopposed, about 4 aspirants are expected to battle the PDP ticket in its primary which is currently underway as of the time of filing this report.
