“US Prepares Advanced Drone Defense Systems for World Cup Security”

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to invest $115 million in counter-drone technology to enhance security for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and events marking 250 years of American independence.

The funding will be managed by a new DHS office dedicated to the rapid acquisition and deployment of drone and counter-drone systems. The move reflects growing concerns about the potential risks posed by drones at high-profile international events.

“Drones represent the new frontier of American air superiority,” said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The investment comes as federal agencies face increasing pressure to protect major public gatherings. Last year, several drone incidents at sporting events and public areas prompted lawmakers and security officials to call for stronger federal action.

As a co-host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the United States will welcome more than one million international visitors to eleven cities hosting matches. In preparation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently awarded $250 million to states hosting World Cup games to support the purchase of counter-drone equipment.

Officials say the investment aims to ensure public safety, strengthen security at major events, and prevent misuse of drones in ways that could threaten attendees or disrupt operations
