A South African man, Hilton van Zyl, shot dead his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself. The shooting incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, September 25, 2022, in Kuilsriver, Cape Town. The victims are identified as Annastasia van Zyl, 44, and Cassidy van Zyl, 15. His 23-year-old son survived the attack as he managed to flee. Justice Polycarp Hamman of the National Industrial Court Abuja has struck out a suit instituted by one Umar Lawal, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, asking the Academic Staff Union of Universities, to call off its seven-month-old strike and return to school. Lawal had instituted the case on behalf of himself and the association. Abidemi Rufai, the suspended aide of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for fraud by a US court. Rufai had attempted to use stolen identities to steal nearly $2.4 million from the United States government, including approximately $500,000 in pandemic-related unemployment benefits. According to the statement, Rufai admitted a long history of using stolen identities to defraud U.S. disaster programs, including aid for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and file fraudulent U.S. tax returns.
